Dialogue with State Secretary Elke Zimmer from the Ministry of Transport Baden-Württemberg  [02.08.22]

The exchange with Prof. Dr. Johannes Steidle made clear that practicable concepts for species protection are needed in our todays transport system

On Wednesday, July 27, Elke Zimmer, State Secretary at the Ministry of Transport Baden-Württemberg, visited the KomBioTa office at the University of Hohenheim together with two consultants. The aim of the meeting was to share the latest research findings from current projects in biodiversity and species protection.

Prof. Dr. Johannes Steidle, KomBioTa board member, and managing director Dr. Ann-Catrin Fender provided information on scientifically background knowledge from newest research and gave practical recommendations for solutions and action with regard to the seeding and maintenance of street greening, the use of insect-friendly mowing technology and the preservation of habitat for native plants. This knowledge is an essential requirement for finding the balancing act between road safety and preserving habitat for insect populations within our road system.

All attendees of this meeting agreed that there is a need for workable approaches to species conservation in transportation.
