Citizen Science

Citizens can also participate in scientific processes. From data collection to intensive involvement in research projects - with citizen science projects knowledge transfer between research and society becomes real.

Floristic mapping

Currently, around 3000 wild plant species have been counted in Baden-Württemberg. It is important that this diversity is regularly documented and that the results can be used for the assessment and redesign of habitats. To this end, floristic mapping is carried out in Baden-Württemberg. Anyone who has the time and inclination can participate in the citizen science project ‘Floristic Mapping’ under the guidance of researchers.

Species mapping of amphibians and reptiles (LAK)

Detailed data on current populations and distributions are required in order to be able to professionally assess planning projects and evaluate species conservation measures in accordance with the Habitats Directive. Anyone who wants to get involved in nature conservation can take part in the recording of various amphibians and reptiles - from grass frogs and great crested newts to sand lizards.

Naturportal Südwest

Have you found an animal, plant or fossil and would like to know what it is? Then you can use the interactive and illustrated identification aids in the Southwest Nature Portal, which will help you to identify many of the species known from Baden-Württemberg. So far, there are identification aids for sweet grasses, molluscs, fossils, insects and other arthropods.

If you feel unsure, experts can support you with their knowledge and experience and will be happy to help you over the last hurdle.

Are you a volunteer with species knowledge and want to network?

The Center for Biodiversity and integrative Taxonomy (KomBioTa) is responsible for the networking of volunteers supporting research in the various subdisciplines of taxonomy.

Our aim is to drive forward cooperations, bring knowledge into flow and jointly develop research, education and knowledge transfer.
