The event brought together a diverse range of guests, including representatives from politics, environmental organizations such as NABU, academic institutions like HfWU and the Max-Planck-Institute, charities, the Umweltakademie, and environmental consulting agencies. Words of welcome from the university's rector set the stage for a packed day that featured 17 posters and eight scientific talks, showcasing the vibrant activity and growth within the KomBioTa network.

The anniversary offered an opportunity both to reflect on KomBioTa’s achievements and to acknowledge the critical support from the government of Baden-Württemberg, whose green governance helped initiate the state-wide taxonomy initiative that led to our founding. With continued political support anticipated after the recent elections, the meeting also highlighted how KomBioTa’s network now reaches beyond state borders, fostering impactful national and international collaborations in biodiversity research.

The scientific program showcased the impressive breadth of research fostered by KomBioTa—spanning topics from genetic diversity and evolutionary processes to species conservation and innovative approaches in research and education. The contributions of both established members and a growing number of enthusiastic students reflected the dynamic and interdisciplinary spirit of our community.

Equally valuable was the vibrant networking throughout the day, with participants from diverse departments and institutions engaging in lively discussions during the poster session and continuing their exchanges after the talks concluded. Witnessing new connections and ideas emerge truly embodied KomBioTa’s mission to spark collaboration and facilitate meaningful cooperation among scientists.

We are encouraged by the strong participation and enthusiasm at this year’s meeting and look forward to continuing these conversations at our regular events throughout the year. By providing ongoing opportunities to connect and collaborate, KomBioTa aims to further support innovative biodiversity research and conservation efforts across Baden-Württemberg and beyond.
