On October 20, the Agricultural University Day took place at the University of Hohenheim titled "Biodiversity and Agriculture - (K)ein Widerspruch". This annual event, hosted by the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, brings together representatives from industry, research and education, as well as the general public, to exchange views on current issues and trends regarding the development of biobased agriculture and discussing future visions.

This year, Prof. Martin Hasselmann, board member of the Center for Biodiversity and integrative Taxonomy (KomBioTa), spoke about the relevance of biodiversity in the agricultural sector. In his talk, he addressed the dramatic loss of biodiversity over the last decades and spoke of knowledge erosion in today's society. He emphasized that there is a strong lack of species knowledge expertise. As this is an important basis for saving biological diversity, KomBioTa is developing activities in the area of research, teaching and knowledge transfer. Prof. Hasselmann agreed with the words of Minister President Mr. Hauck, who emphasized the importance of a quickly and promptly transfer of current research results to relevant decision-making levels so that appropriate measures can be implemented.

The lectures of the Agricultural University Day 2022 are available with lecture slides and video recordings on the website of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at https://agrar.uni-hohenheim.de/landwirtschaftlicher-hochschultag-2022.
