Only those people, who understood processes in detail are able to understand things on a large scale. This also applies for species knowledge. Only those uf us who know about the interaction between plants, animals and humans are able to make smart decisions with regard to biodiversity and a sustainable future. Keep this in mind, KomBioTa organizes educational formats that transmit knowledge about fauna and flora.

In summer semester, the University of Hohenheim was able to initiate a botany course supported by KomBioTa for the first time. The course named "Instruction course in plant identification" was provided to Bachelor's and Master's students of agricultural sciences and natural sciences. Once a week, the students got the change to search and identify plants on the Hohenheim campus. Robert Gliniars (Hohenheim Gardens) provided expert support during they worked outdoors and identified the species they found – from Canada thistle to woodland creeper.

Species knowledge is an essential core competence for biodiversity experts, who are wanted in numerous professional sectors, such as agriculture, conservation policy, medicine or pharmacology. Educational courses create a learning space for students to try out and develop basic practical skills and experience in identifying plants and animal species.

It is planned to offer the botany course in the summer semester 2023 again.
