David Becker receives Herzog von Württemberg scholarship for Master's Thesis in Costa Rica [25.07.23]
How does deforestation of the rainforest affect bird communities? What is the impact of the landscape around forest fragments? How are food webs changing as a result of clearing? The Landscape Ecology student plans to explore questions like these together with two fellow students during a research visit in Central America.
How is the bird life in the rainforest changing as a result of deforestation? David Becker wants to find answers to this question during a research trip. The Herzog von Württemberg Scholarship will enable him to realize the necessary research. (Photo: David Becker)
On Friday, July 7, David Becker, who is actively supporting the Center for Biodiversity and Integrative Taxonomy (KomBioTa) since two years, received a scholarship from the SKH Carl Herzog von Württemberg in the form of a certificate during the Dies academicus. The Herzog von Württemberg scholarship annually supports above-average qualified students of the University of Hohenheim for research projects abroad as part of their final thesis.
David Becker was one of three students who convinced the scholarship committee with his idea. The prize money will enable him to carry out his planned research trip. The ambitious young ecologist will travel to Costa Rica together with two fellow students as a FreeMover. He plans to collect data for his research topic "The effects of rainforest fragmentation on the resilience of trophic interaction networks between frugivorous birds and fruit trees". After his return, he will scientifically evaluate and publish this data under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ingo Grass and Dr. Thomas Hiller as part of his master's thesis.
KomBioTa congratulates David Becker on the scholarship and wishes success in his endeavor!
