KomBioTa was there with a booth featuring our brochures and information materials. At KomBioTa, we believe that networking and connecting people working in biodiversity research is essential for fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge and creating new opportunities. The conference provided a great opportunity to put this mission into practice. We were particularly excited to present our newly developed Research Directory, which brings together research groups, projects, student research opportunities and volunteering positions at the University of Hohenheim and the Natural History Museum Stuttgart. The directory helps students discover opportunities to get involved in research, gain practical experience and connect with the biodiversity research community.Connecting researchers through speciesTo encourage networking among conference participants, KomBioTa organised a fun, species-themed networking game. Each delegate received a small card attached to their name badge featuring the name of a species. Their challenge was to mingle with other participants and find their matching species partner. The matches included predator–prey relationships, mimic and parasitic interactions. The game sparked plenty of conversations, laughter and curiosity as participants worked together to discover their species connections.Once they had found their match, participants could visit the KomBioTa booth to collect a small prize. This also gave us a great opportunity to introduce our work, share information about the Research Directory and talk about ways to get involved in KomBioTa or become a member. The game perfectly reflected what KomBioTa is all about: bringing people together through a shared interest in biodiversity. By creating opportunities for researchers, students and nature enthusiasts to meet and exchange ideas, we hope to strengthen connections across the biodiversity community.
We were delighted to see the game bring people together and create new connections across the conference community.
