Kickoff of a new research project to contain the Tapinoma magnum ant species [30.04.25]
The increasing spread of the invasive ant species Tapinoma magnum is a challenge that scientists from the State Natural History Museums Stuttgart and Karlsruhe now want to tackle. They want to investigate the spread mechanisms, make predictions for the future spread based on this, and develop strategies for coping with the aggressive invasion.

The research project, which has been running at the Natural History Museums in Stuttgart and Karlsruhe since the beginning of the year, was officially launched on April 11 with a kick-off workshop at the Ortenau district office in Offenburg.
At this meeting, stakeholders from science, politics and local authorities as well as citizens and pest control specialists exchanged information on current findings, evaluated ongoing projects and examined possible collaborations for an effective analysis and containment of the ant invasion.
The project is scheduled to run for two years and is supported by the Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Energy Sector.
KomBioTa wishes all participating researchers every success!
