KomBioTa Summer School 2025 „Research meets practical nature conservation” [15.09.25]
From the university to the real world: young professionals experience nature conservation planning firsthand.
Eleven doctoral and master's students from Baden-Württemberg gained insight into the work of nature conservation planners. For three days, the students surveyed conservation-relevant species at Federsee in Bad Buchau, from bird identification in the morning to light trapping at night. They were accompanied by an experienced biologist and cartographer with practical nature conservation experience.
The practical exercises were supplemented by a theoretical component covering the legal basis and the organizational and content requirements for a cartography report. The students acquired knowledge that they were able to apply directly in their final cartography report.
The summer school was well received by the students. The feedback showed that some of the participants are now considering a career in environmental and nature conservation planning.
