KomBioTa at the Virtual Nature Conservation Days 2022 [11.01.22]
About 170 interested participants were enthusiastic about the species knowledge and actively participated in the first exchange.
The Nature Conservation Days 2022 organized by Nabu and BUND took place completely digitally this time. Dr. Ann-Catrin Fender presented the Competence Center for Biodiversity and Integrative Taxonomy (KomBioTa) and its offerings for conservation practice at the meeting.
Around 700 people interested in nature conservation met last week for the first digital nature conservation days to exchange views on current climate and nature conservation topics and to discuss new ideas and approaches to solutions. Volunteers and interested participants learned about the current state of the climate and biodiversity crisis, the role of nature conservation associations, and other important future issues in nature conservation and environmental protection – including the preservation of species knowledge in Baden-Württemberg.
The seminar "Strengthening and communicating species knowledge" focused on the core topics of the Competence Center for Biodiversity and Integrative Taxonomy (KomBioTa). Here everything revolved around the state initiative "Integrative Taxonomy", the qualification and certification initiatives of the BANU academies and the project „Wild.Bienen.Wissen".
Together with Michael Eick, the new director of the Academy for Nature and Environmental Protection Baden-Württemberg and Marion Rapp, employee of the academy, Dr. Ann-Catrin Fender presented current approaches and offers for the preservation of species knowledge in Baden-Württemberg. In the dialogue with the participants, questions about the existing species groups in Baden-Württemberg, the gaps in species knowledge and important tasks for taxonomy research were discussed. The valuable ideas discussed will be incorporated into KomBioTa's future work.
