How should a land use and food system look like that promotes biodiversity? How can this be achieved in politics and society? What is the ecological, economic and social impact of the organic farming expansion? Researchers from the Universities of Hohenheim and Freiburg try to answer questions like these in the BEATLE research project, that started in summer 2022. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with 2.7 million euros over a period of 5 years.
The BEATLE junior research group, led by KomBioTa member Dr. Arndt Feuerbacher, aims to identify transformation pathways towards a biodiversity-friendly land use and food system. The scientists want to simulate and evaluate them using ecological-economic models. The group is working closely with representatives of social interest and population groups. Suitable measures and concepts will be developed to slow down the decline in biodiversity.
KomBioTa is looking forward to the results of the project and wishes all the best with the planned research activities!
